Creel
Creel is a somewhat frontier town, rustic yet interesting. Known as the gateway to the canyons, from Creel you can travel to the Candameņa (Basaseachi Waterfall), Batopilas, Copper or Urique Canyons. Around the town are several points of interest such as Lake Arareco, a valley with odd rock formations, Tarahumara missions and the Cusarare Waterfall. The hotels in this town range from budget to expensive, the following are our preferred picks:

Lodge at Creel (4*) This comfortable hotel features 20 rooms built in mountain cabin style units surrounded by tall pines.

Margarita's Hotel Plaza Mexicana (3*) This charming hotel is built around a Mexican Plaza courtyard and so its name. With 28 rooms on two levels, your price includes a modest but tasty dinner and filling breakfast.

Batopilas
Batopilas is probably one of the most intriguing locations in the Copper Canyons. Quite remote and moderately difficult to reach, this once bountiful silver producing region still captures the imagination of its visitors.

Though the river is difficult to see from this vantage point, the view is still quite spectacular. Attractions include the 17th century mission of Cerocahui, vistas of the Urique Canyon and access to the town of Urique on the canyon bottom. The view of the Barranca Urique from Cerro Gallegos is one of the most spectacular in the canyons and a must see for any traveler through this region.

El Fuerte - Los Mochis
Though only 70 km. from each other, Los Mochis and El Fuerte are worlds apart in ambience. The town of El Fuerte is colonial in origin but occupation of this area far predates the Spanish. Bird watching along the El Fuerte River or visiting a nearby Indian settlement are among the activities in this area.
Los Mochis is the largest city and the terminal on the Western end of the Chihuahua al Pacifico train route. Here banking and communication services are readily available. Los Mochis is also close to the airport and ferry terminal.
